6 Questions You Should Ask Every Moving Company |
1. Is the company licensed?
Go to the Georgia Public Service Commission www.psc.state.ga.us. Click on “Transportation” and then on “A List Of Licensed Movers” in Georgia for an up-to-date listing. |
| |
2. Get as much information about the company as you can.
Full company name and any DBA names (doing business as)
How long have they been in business?
Company address
Phone numbers (local and toll-free)
DOT and MC/ICC license numbers
Company web site address/Email address |
| |
3. Ask for 3 customer references
From your area that were moved within the past three months. |
| |
4. Will the company be doing the move?
Themselves, or if they will be sub-contracting out the job. This also applies to licensed companies that subcontract out to their drivers and tell them to get their own crews, who aren’t covered under workman’s comp insurance. This means the liability may still fall on you if someone is injured. |
| |
5. Ask about insurance coverage
The basic insurance provided covers only a small portion of the total value of your belongings. Ask your mover how much liability coverage comes with the estimate you’re given. |
| |
6. If moving across state lines, do they have interstate authority?
If not, don’t chance it. |
